How to navigate the site

Navigating

The map shows spots of interest with the accompanying legend. Click on a spot to see what's there, with the spot name and its photo.

The spot page will show the details, and the stewardship information, if known. The steward can be an individual person or a named group, such as a gardening club. For the given spot, there are associated observations shown on the right. Each observation contains one or more photos taken by a given person at a given time, with an optional note.

The spot will belong to a tax parcel, the legal unit of land. One or more parcels will comprise a site -- this is the familiar designation of a property (historically, a site may acquire multiple parcels over time, and these commonly remain separate in tax records). Thus, one site can contain muliple spots, each of which may have its own steward.

Adding a spot

From the home map, signed-in users have two starting points:

Click Upload new photo above the map (also available on scoreboard/territory pages). If it's the original photo, the system will scan the photo's data for timestamp and location; if a location is found, nearby existing spots are offered so you can attach the photo as an observation, or choose to create a new spot instead. Without the data, you can search for a spot by name or fall back to the full new-spot form.
Right-click a location on the map to open the quick-add dialog and create a spot there directly, with or without a photo.

Associate Photos and Spots with a Site

From a spot's page, click Discover parcel (formerly "Find Parcels") to look up the parcel at that location.

Option A: Join an Existing Site

If the parcel lookup matches a site already on file, you'll be offered the option to join it.
Confirm to attach the spot to that site.

Option B: Create a New Site

If no matching site exists, choose to create one from the discovered parcel.
Fill in the site's details (purpose, legal owner, stewardship program/reference) — these can be edited later from the site's own page.

Group Stewards

After creating a spot, you can pick a steward group — it defaults to a group you administer or belong to, if any.
If the right group doesn't exist yet, enter its name to create a new steward record (with a URL and contact email), which starts unverified until the contact confirms it.
Group admins manage the member roster from the steward's own "manage" page.

Updating up your profile

A username is generated from your logged-in name. You can change it to something else, and add a photo of yourself if you like. The profile page shows your contributions, and lets you manage your own spots and observations.

Click "Become a Steward" to set up your stewardship record. You can be an individual steward.
